Project Pinewood refused permission by the Secretary of State

The Secretary of State, Eric Pickles, has refused to grant planning permission on appeal for

Pinewood Studios Ltd to build its Project Pinewood proposals in the Green Belt at Iver Heath.

South Bucks District Council refused planning permission for the proposals in October 2009 on the basis that the proposals were inappropriate development in the Metropolitan Green Belt and that the applicant had not demonstrated any special circumstances sufficient to warrant an exception to Green Belt policies.

Iver Parish Council strongly supported South Bucks District Council in opposition to Pinewood's plans and local residents formed the action group 'Stop Project Pinewood'.

Pinewood Studio’s Ltd submitted an appeal against the Council’s decision, and a Public Inquiry was held at the Evreham Centre in Iver in April and May 2011.  Iver Parish Council Chairman, Stop Project Pinewood and many local residents made representations at the Public Enquiry.  The Secretary of State accepted the decision of the Inspector who conducted the Public Enquiry and the announcement was made on January 20th 2012.  The decision was widely welcomed by local residents.

Iver Parish Council is the body that represents local opinion. We are consulted on all planning proposals and have regular requests for opinions on a variety of matters such as footpaths, licensing and street collections, road safety, library services, ancient monuments and trees.

In addition we are responsible for some areas of common land including Iver Heath Fields, Hardings Row Nature Reserve, St Leonard's Mound in Richings Park, a footpath in Pinewood Green, 2 recreation grounds, a sports pavilion at Iver Heath, 2 children's playgrounds, local street lighting, allotments, bus shelters, parish notice boards, seats and litter/dog bins.

We also give grants to a number of local organisations and provide hanging baskets in our shopping areas in the summer and lights at Christmas.

All Parish Council and Committee meetings are open to the public and we are required by law to hold an annual Parish meeting at which anything can be discussed. There are 14 Parish Councillors who try to represent local opinion but we welcome comments from anyone attending these meetings.

Iver Parish Council obtained Quality Council Status in 2007. This is a new Government initiative to recognise Town and Parish Councils who have proven that they are competent and professionally managed. This is important in raising the standing of Town and Parish Councils so that the voice of local communities can be heard more strongly. Your Parish Council will seek to promote the interests of Iver in every way we can and this award can only help.
